Homeschooling a Child with Learning Difficulties Interview
Interested in Homeschooling a Child with Learning Difficulties?
I was interviewed about homeschooling a child with learning difficulties for a small business contest with Client Creatives. If you want to know why we homeschooled, then you might enjoy reading this interview. You’ll also learn some about how we overcame learning difficulties through homeschooling. And you’ll learn how you can benefit by homeschooling a child with learning difficulties.
Homeschooling a child with learning difficulties can truly be a blessing in many unexpected ways. So many that the interview just touches on the benefits. Sometimes parents think they ought to homeschool a child, but they’re afraid they won’t do a good job. Or you may want to homeschool, but think you’ll fight with your child all the time. Please DO consider homeschooling anyway! It’s a LOT different than you may think. 😉
I explain how homeschooling was different from my expectations in my book Overcome Your Fear of Homeschooling. We never planned on homeschooling. However, it was the BEST decision we could have made–in so MANY ways. I share the unexpected benefits in this book, so go snag a copy if you’re at all interested. It’s a highly-rated, easy-to-read book that will tell you like it is. 😉
Why Consider Homeschooling a Child with Learning Difficulties?
My most emphatic point to parents who are considering homeschooling is, I would tell parents foremost—YOU HAVE to be an advocate for your child, or he will fall through the cracks. Unless a parent acknowledges there’s a problem, and directly requests services, schools will often let a child fall through the cracks. Your child is YOUR child. Therefore, it is YOUR job to make sure your child gets what he needs educationally.
Not everyone can homeschool, so it’s a real challenge if your child isn’t getting a viable education at school. In such cases, getting training to work with your child, getting tutors, paying someone else to homeschool your child, or doing whatever you can to help your child will pay off in many ways over your child’s lifetime.
I hope you found the interview inspiring. I also hope you can find answers to all of your questions through one of my books (see my author profile on Amazon) or here on the Learning Abled Kids’ website. 😉
